Seri Indians: A Circle of Thanks

Ocean Conservancy members wrote to the Seri Indians to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication to the beautiful sea turtles. Photos: Tim Dykman/Ocean Revolution.  Contribute to Ocean Conservancy’s work protecting sea turtles and all ocean wildlife >>
The 650 remaining Seri Indians living on the Sea of Cortez in Sonora, Mexico, sing to it, tell sagas about it, and believe it is the foundation on which the earth rests. "It" is the majestic leatherback sea turtle, the largest of all sea turtles -- and one of the most endangered species in our ocean.

Ocean Conservancy senior scientist Dr. "J" Nichols was inspired by his early work with the Seri people and their commitment to protecting sea turtles for generations to come. We asked our members to thank the Seri Indians for their dedication and generous work on behalf the sea turtle and got a tremendous response of gratitude and appreciation for everything our friends are doing on behalf of the sea turtle.
